Bergamot, “Fantastico” variety
Bergamot, “Fantastico” variety, is a recently discovered cultivar, of greater value than the previous ones, both for the high yield in juice and for the good yield in essential oils.
Bergamot is classified as citrus fruit but actually little or nothing is known about its origin; some theories want it to be born from the crossbreeding between key lime and bitter orange, while others prefer to consider it as a species in its own right, arrived in Italy directly from the Canary Islands thanks to Christopher Columbus.
The bergamot extract is widely used in aromatherapy as a relaxing and natural antidepressant; inhalations based on this essence are instead excellent to combat respiratory problems, thanks to its precious antibacterial and disinfectant properties.
Bergamot is the best natural disinfectant, used as a remedy not only for airways but also for problems in the oral cavity, to gums, skin, of which it heals small wounds, and to nails affected by onychomycosis.
Bergamot juice has enormous beneficial properties for the body: it lowers triglycerides, cholesterol and blood glucose levels, it naturally stimulates appetite and hepato-pancreatic functions, it contrasts cholecystitis, tachycardia, impertension, stomatitis and is an effective intestinal antiparasitic.
Bergamot is also a source of citric acid, magnesium and flavonoids.
