Interdonato lemon from Calabria
The Interdonato lemon is a citrus fruit belonging to the Citrus limon species, obtained in the 19th century in Sicily by grafting a citron and a lemon clone.
It is cultivated in the luxuriant Sibari Plain in Calabria.
The Interdonato lemon has a medium to large size, elliptical shape and a yellow colour when fully ripe, with opaque green ends.
Its epicarp is shiny and thin and its flesh is yellow. The taste of this citrus fruit is particularly sweet and delicate thanks to its low citric acid content.
Because of its particularly sweet taste this lemon can be eaten alone, even with the peel, or cut into thin slices with oil, vinegar and salt. It can be used as an ingredient in various recipes and to prepare several kinds of drinks.
